Short courses begin

A long-held ambition at the International Boatbuilding Training College Portsmouth was finally realised this Autumn with the start of a brand-new series of short courses; most of which are suitable for beginners. Lasting between 1 and 5 days the courses, in everything from tool maintenance to building a paddleboard paddle, are taught by the College's very own instructors in our purpose-built Joinery workshops in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

We've been preparing for the courses since the Summer, thinking through all the elements of the training and designing the courses to be suitable for students of different skill levels. College staff have cleared out the Joinery workshop and mess room, sourced materials and prepared tools for the students to borrow. We've also liaised with the Historic Dockyards security team, written Ts&Cs and joining instructions & even bought a couple of sofas.

All this hard work has paid off as the feedback from the students has been fantastic, with several booking further courses almost immediately. The quotes below are from our feedback forms, where 100% so far say they would recommend our short courses to a friend.

"Learnt something I’ve been trying to learn for 30 years!"

"Very instructive and enjoyable"

"Clear help and advice"

"Excellent instruction"

"It was all I expected and more"

The current courses run until March, with a new series of courses for the Spring and Summer due to be announced early in the New Year. Want to be the first to hear about what those new short courses will be? Sign up to our mailing list on the Contact Us page and stand by your inbox!
