12 Week Joinery Course

What is the IBTC Portsmouth 12 Week Joinery Course?

It is a course designed to teach the traditional joinery skills to work on boats or build furniture through various practical exercises. It's suitable for men and women of all skill levels, even those with no prior experience.

What will I learn?

Developing the accurate use of hand tools is key to all aspects of woodworking.

Students begin with simple measuring and cutting and progress, via joints and the use of adhesives, to the manufacture of their own woodworking tools. As part of the course you will make your own mallet, spirit level and tool chest, among other things. All materials are provided, and the items you make are yours to keep.

The Joinery Course is self contained, but also forms the first part of the 1 year Boatbuilding Course for those students who wish to progress further.

The next 12 week Joinery Course will begin on 2nd March 2020.

There are two intakes a year, in early March and early September, with a maximum of 14 students in each intake.

The course is full-time. The usual hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.
