What are the IBTCP Bursary Funds?

We are fortunate in having a small pot of funds, raised through charitable donations, that are used to support outstanding students on the one year Boatbuilding Course. The bursaries, typically equal to 10% of the full course fees, are deducted from remaining course fees rather than presented as a lump sum or a prize.

Who can apply for a Bursary?

Selected students are invited to apply after completing joinery training. Instructors are looking for students with high levels of application, commitment, employability and who have made strong progress so far. Priority is also given to students who aim to pursue a career in the marine sector and who can demonstrate their commitment to their wider professional development.

Are there any other sources of funding for the courses?

Yes. There are several charities and grant awarding bodies who have provided financial support to students in the past including:

City and Guilds

The Worshipful Company of Shipwrights

The Royal British Legion

The Prince's Trust

Lawrence Atwell's Charity

We can offer advice and further suggestions on sources of external funding. Please get in touch via our contact page to learn more.
