Learn traditional wooden boatbuilding for less

Have you have been made redundant or had your work or income badly affected due to COVID-19? Would you like to retrain for a new, practical and hands-on career? If so, IBTC Portsmouth may be the place for you.

Thanks to a successful application to the Cultural Recovery Fund, we are offering up to 25 heavily subsidised places on our 1-year, full-time traditional wooden boatbuilding course. Students learn woodwork and joinery skills and everything they need to begin a career in boatbuilding, boat restoration or related industries.

You, like our previous students, could go on to restore historic craft, start your own furniture business, work for a company fitting out yachts or work in boatyards all over the world. If you are interested, fill in the form below to find out more. There is no age limit for applicants and you do not need to be unemployed to apply.

Bursaries are available for the courses starting in March 2021, September 2021 and March 2022. All places will be allocated by 31st March 2021. The application deadline for the March 2021 course is Friday 8th January.

The maximum bursary that can be awarded is 70% of the course fees, worth up to £10,925,60. Successful students will be responsible for paying for the remainder of the fees, supplying their own tools and covering their living expenses for the year.
