Learn traditional wooden boatbuilding for less

If you have been made redundant or had your work and income badly affected due to COVID-19 and would like to retrain for a new, practical and hands-on career, IBTC Portsmouth may be the place for you.

Thanks to a successful application to the Cultural Recovery Fund, we are offering up to 25 heavily subsidised places on our 1-year, full-time traditional wooden boatbuilding course. You will learn woodwork and joinery skills and everything you need to begin a career in boatbuilding, boat restoration or related industries.

Previous students have gone on to start their own furniture businesses, fit out yachts, restore historic craft and worked in boatyards all over the world.

If you are interested, get in contact to begin the application process. Successful applicants do not have to start their training straightaway and you do not need to be unemployed to apply. Places will be available for the courses starting in March 2021, September 2021 and March 2022. All places will be allocated by 31st March 2021.

The maximum bursary that can be awarded is 70% of the course fees, worth up to £10,925,60. Successful students will be responsible for paying for the remainder of the fees, supplying their own tools and covering their living expenses for the year.
